The monkstrap or double buckle shoes have their etymological origin in their supposed resemblance to the sandals of the monks. These are shoes whose main peculiarity is their closure on the outer side by buckle, usually have a smooth and two castañetas in which are respectively the belt and the buckle. It is highly appreciated by those who want comfortable footwear to fit the size of each foot, thus being very suitable for problem feet. It can be considered a multipurpose shoe since it can fit both for formal and sport situations. Today it is given a semi-formal use of newspaper, as an alternative to some Oxford or Blücher and a more informal use, rather than moccasins.
