Known as loafers in English, moccasins are the most comfortable of classic shoes. The term comes from the footwear used by the American Indians who made them of untanned skins. At the present time they are made with thin and flexible skin and are characterized by lack of laces, buckles or other form of subjection, fitting in a single gesture. They are suitable shoes to wear in both sport and dress situations, but not for formal occasions such as etiquette parties in which tuxedo or frock is required.
